♣ The setting? What kind of world is Daear?Daear is a fantasy/sci-fi world with potential for all sorts of things.
Where will my character end up when s/he arrives?Your character will arrive on a small island near a town with a temple to the fickle goddess who may or may not have brought your character to this world. Appropriately, this town is called Temple Town. For more information on the setting,
see here. There may be characters from Daear that will recognize concepts from other worlds, but not specific characters or stories.
♣ Plot?Does Daear have an overarcing plot? There is an overarcing plot in the background. Bits will be revealed as time goes by, but since characters' actions will have an effect, spelling it out before hand wouldn't be very helpful.
The overarcing plot is not the main focus of this RP anyway. That honor goes to character interactions and player plots within the setting.
Can players suggest events or plots?Yes. But it is subject to mod approval if it affects all or most players. If it only effects your character(s) and those of other players in on the plot, it does not need mod approval.
♣ Communications? There are several ways your character can communicate with other characters when they are not speaking in person.
Snail Mail - Your character can write letters. There are post offices in every town in Daear, even the ones not detailed yet. You can post your letter to
daear_net with an appropriate subject line and who it's addressed to and the appropriate tag. Or, if you don't want to spoil something with OoC knowledge, you can just plot with the other Mun about the contents of the letter.
Computers - At first your character will not have a computer that is compatible with the world's networks. They may get one from a shop or from a traveling merchant who also carries them or use the ones found in the library. For a small fee they can also have any devices they have with them already upgraded to be able to connect. This will also go through
daear_net with appropriate subject line and tag.
♣ Bulletins?Daear has bulletin boards?Yep. And here are their descriptions.
Bulletin board - Notices are posted along with advertisements, news and wanted posters. Player characters may also post messages to these boards. Please note whether it is on the online bulletin or the physical bulletin board and which town it applies to.
Job board - Here you can find postings for jobs. It can be an employer seeking regular work, someone looking to have a one time odd job done or someone seeking employment. As with the bulletin board, player characters may post to this and it can be either a physical board or an online board. Or both. Odd jobs can include mundane things like yard work and deliveries or crazy things like monster hunting and calming angry ghosts in the area close to whichever town the board applies to.
Quest board - For jobs further a field, the quest board is the place to go. These can be deliveries, escorts, treasure hunts, etc. that are not in the local area. If the quest goes to an area that has not yet been detailed, that detailing will occur during the course of the quest.
What if my character is the kind of troll who would put weird or offensive stuff on the bulletin boards? They can do that. Other characters may not like them for it, but they can certainly do it. If it's particularly offensive, it should go behind a cut.
♣ Adding to the setting?I can add to the setting? How?Submit a description and placement of the area to the mods for approval. Make sure your area matches the climate and terrain of the chosen location. Also try to match the type of society in the area if there is one detailed already.
Don't try to put a forest in the middle of a desert or a jungle in the arctic.
Don't put a wild tribe in the middle of an area with big cities. Etc.
Can another character destroy a town or building that I added to the setting?Yes, but only with approval of the mods and the player who added the place to the setting. If you're completely against it being destroyed from the start, put that in the submission to the mods. Small damage, like a building here or there in a town or a few statues in a temple, does not need approval.
♣ Characters? What kind of characters can I play here?Canon - Just about anything except crack muses or game breakers. A crack muse might be the Humping Robot from Robot Chicken. A game breaker is a character that can destroy a whole world with little or no effort. If you're not sure, ask the mods.
Original characters - Original character can be from an original or canon universe. If the character is from a canon universe, they may not have pre-game connections to canon characters, such as being a long lost relative or a friend from school. At most, they can have heard a canon character's name or vageuly know who they are.
You may also create an orignal character who is Native to Daear.
Alternate universe - Both canon AUs (like Star Trek's Mirror Universe) and player created AUs of canon characters are allowed.
You may also make an AU for your character that is native to Daear.
Can there be multiple versions of a character?Yes. There can be two of a given character. However, only one can be a fan made AU. So, there can be two canon versions of a character, such as Final Fantasy Cloud Strife and Kingdom Hearts Cloud Strife, but there cannot be two fan made AUs.
The same character from two different points in canon is still the same character and not an AU. If there is already a Cloud from some time during Final Fantasy VII, then there cannot be a Cloud from Crisis Core.
♣ Can my character go home? There are two ways for a character to go home.
World Train - The World Train will stop by the temple every two to three months to pick up characters that wish to return home. It's a rather small train, it's very long trip and tickets are quite expensive. It stays in town for a while before maintenence and cleaning before setting out again.
Portals - Living near the temple are people said to be able to create portals to other worlds. This ability is quite rare and most of those capable or doing it will not do so for free. On top of that, it's risky even if the portal maker is experienced. To complicate things further, many of the portal makers have gone missing and most of the remaining ones are either only just learning or too old to muster that kind of power anymore.
♣ My character can teleport/make their own kind of portals. Can't they just get home on their own?Not at first. Something about the space around Daear prevents other portals from working properly. They'll just end up drawn back to the temple if they try to go somewhere off Daear.
However, there may be ways to make it possible for your character to travel between Daear and their home world.
♣ Death? What happens if my character dies? They can be brought back to life up to three times. Someone will have to be willing to go on a quest to ask the world's death god to bring them back.
This can be a loved one, a compulsive hero or a mercenary contacted through someone capable of talking to the dead. Or whatever else you can think of. It does not have to be a player character.
Your characters can also hang around as a ghost until someone brings them back to life.
Can another player character kill my character? Not without your approval. Doing so without the mun's approval is godmodding and against the rules. However, picking a fight with a powerful character for whom it is very IC to kill any annoyances or threats falls under the rule about keeping things some what realistic with the situations your character gets into.
